The Tennessee Vols finished the 2025 regular season with an uninspiring 45-24 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
A win over Vandy could’ve put Tennessee in position to play in the Citrus Bowl.
Instead, the Vols will likely be heading to either the ReliaQuest Bowl or the Gator Bowl.
Athlon Sports predicted on Sunday that Tennessee will play the Miami Hurricanes in the Gator Bowl on December 27 (Miami, however, could still make the College Football Playoff).
CBS Sports, meanwhile, has the Vols playing Illinois in the ReliaQuest Bowl on December 31.
At this point, it’s unclear who will play for Tennessee in a bowl game and who won’t.
Inevitably, though, there will be players who choose to sit out to protect their NFL draft stock. And, of course, some players will enter the NCAA transfer portal ahead of the winter transfer window opening in early January.
While bowl games don’t carry the same weight they once did, this will still be an important game for the Volunteers. Finishing the season at 9-4 looks a lot better than finishing 8-5.
