Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart might be on the verge of winning his second straight national championship, but that didn't stop him from looking foolish this week because of some comments he made earlier this season.
After Georgia beat the Tennessee Vols in early November, Smart bragged to CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell about not utilizing the transfer portal.
“A bunch of kids that love this place. We took zero kids out of the transfer portal,” said Smart after beating the Vols in Athens. “They all love it here and they compete their ass off.”
On Thursday, Georgia landed not one, but TWO wide receivers from the transfer portal — Rara Thomas from Mississippi State and Dominic Lovett from Missouri.
For a coach that bragged about taking zero players from the portal, he sure didn't hesitate to pursue a couple of transfer wide receivers because he felt like they were better than the wide receivers already on Georgia's roster.
It felt like Smart was taking a shot at Tennessee for having transfer players like Hendon Hooker, Bru McCoy, Gerald Mincey, Juwan Mitchell, etc.
But when quality players at a position of need for Georgia became available, Smart didn't hesitate to jump into the portal to retrieve them.
Smart essentially solidified himself as a hypocrite this week.
