Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jauan Jennings has found himself in a wild coincidence ahead of UT's upcoming matchup with the Florida Gators on September 24.
This year's Tennessee vs Florida game falls on the six-year anniversary of the Vols' 38-28 win against the Gators in 2016 — the only time UT has beaten UF since 2004.
The Vols fell behind 21-0 in that game, but they rallied for 35 points in the second half to secure the win.
Tennessee's offensive explosion in the second half was buoyed by Jennings' 67-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.
The catch was especially memorable because Jennings was matched up against Florida cornerback Teez Tabor.
One of the big storylines leading up to the game was whether or not the Vols could find success against Tabor, a player who received a lot of hype in early 2016.
Jennings' complete domination of him — especially on this play — erased a lot of that hype.
Both players are now in the NFL. And they'll have a chance to go up against each other again this Sunday — six days before the Tennessee/Florida game.
Jennings is a member of the San Francisco 49ers and Tabor was just picked up this week by the Seattle Seahawks. The two NFC West squads meet on Sunday.
What are the chances that Tabor, who was on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad until this week, and Jennings would face each other just six days before the anniversary of the Vols' win against Florida involving those two players?
The odds have to be low.
Either way, it's going down. And maybe that coincidence bodes well for Tennessee's game against Florida. It certainly feels like the stars are aligning for the Vols.
