Before spring practice, Tennessee was ranked No. 24 in the nation. After spring practice, the Vols are ranked No. 22, just behind the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Hendon Hooker is back as Tennessee's conductor offensively under Josh Heupel for a team that should challenge for an upper-tier finish in the SEC East. Building on the Volunteers' success in Year 1 under its new regime is the mindset this fall.

These might be the best pre-season rankings I've seen so far.
For starters, I think Tennessee and Arkansas should be ranked closely together. I think both programs are in similar places. I also like that 247Sports has the Vols above Kentucky.
And more importantly, South Carolina isn't in 247Sports' top 25. I think that's the right call. The Gamecocks are definitely on the cusp of the top 25, but Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas were better last year. Those teams deserve to be ranked ahead of South Carolina.
Other notable teams in 24Sports' top 25 include Ole Miss at No. 20 and Pittsburgh at No. 17 (the Panthers are on the Vols' schedule this year).
Auburn is another SEC program that's noticeably absent from 247Sports' post-spring top 25.
