Bill Belichick has refused to open up about his future all season. However, after Sunday's finale, the New England Patriots head coach spoke on what's next.

And while he provided fairly typical answers, it was still enough to gage how he is feeling.

"I'll kind of follow up on a couple things from yesterday. As I said, it was obviously a very disappointing season all the way around," Belichick said at the beginning of the press conference. "Players, coaches, staff, organization, everybody is not anywhere close to what our standard and expectations are. So, obviously, things need to be fixed."

Along with not answering questions on the future, Belichick has always refused to talk about contracts. It's a known fact. But there was one small comment that caught everyone's attention.

"So, I'm under contract, do what I always do, which is every day I come in and work as hard as I can to help the team in whatever way I can. So, that's what I'm going to continue to do," Belichick said. "So, as far as any decisions or direction or anything like that for next year, it's way too early for that."

But how it's done, I'll meet with Robert [Kraft] like I always do, meet with the staff, meet with the personnel department, kind of recap the season, look at the big picture and then look at some of the individual situations that are looming one way or another," he added. "But, that's obviously a long way off from where we are right now. So, we'll start at the end of the day, putting the pieces back together in terms of setting things up to go through a good, detailed analysis and to kind of start a reconstruction, if you will."

Belichick declined to comment on when the actual meeting with Kraft would be, but did later confirm that the two met during the season as well.

Finding out Belichick is under contract is not a surprise. That was reported much earlier this season. But what did come as a shock was his willingness to even mention that.

And he continued to be full of surprises, later admitting that he would be willing to relinquish some of the draft responsibilities and personnel decisions.

"Yeah, look, I'm for whatever, collectively, we decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team. And, I have multiple roles in that, and I rely on a lot of people to help me in those responsibilities," Belichick said. "If somebody's got to have the final say, I rely on a lot of other people to help. And, however that process is, I'm only part of it.

But he did return to his typical self when asked if he would be interesting in coaching another team if things with the Patriots don't work out.

"Yeah, I'm not going to get into a lot of hypothetical situations," Belichick said and was then asked if he would be surprised Kraft decided to move on. "Yeah, I'm going to focus on what I can control and focus on, and that's my work ethic and my effort to do what I can to help the Patriots organization, which I'm heavily invested in."

Based on the way Belichick answered each question, it appears that he wants to remain in New England. And that was shown by him bringing up his contract and talking about how invested he is in the organization. Because of that, his comments appeared to be directed at one person.

Robert Kraft, the ball is now in your court.
