The Patriots quarterback room will look completely different during the 2024 NFL season. Currently, the only remaining quarterbacks from last year are Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke.
But they did turn to a familiar face when bringing in a veteran for the room.
Earlier this month, the Patriots brought back Jacoby Brissett, having been the best rumored choice for the team since the offseason began. And Jerod Mayo didn't hold back when talking about his feelings regarding this move.
"A guy like Jacoby, he's a great leader," Mayo told NFL Network. "Everyone loves him. To get him back in the building is definitely helpful for us."
Plus, if the team decides to go in another direction during the 2024 NFL Draft, not selecting a quarterback early on, Brissett might become the starter this season.
"And honestly, look, he could absolutely be our starter this year," Mayo added. "We'll have to see. Like I said, we're not dead set at taking a quarterback at No. 3, but we do feel good having a guy like Jacoby ready to go."
After the initial signing, it was reported that Brissett was mainly going to be used as a 'veteran bridge/backup quarterback.'
But as we know, anything is possible.
Brissett began his career with the Patriots as a third round pick in 2016. However, after one season, he went to the Indianapolis Colts from four seasons. In 2021 he signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, and in 2022, he went to the Cleveland Browns, having played under new Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
But now he's back where it all began, having the chance to contribute to this new era in New England.
