The New England Patriots had plans to interview Cincinnati Bengals quarterback coach Dan Pitcher for their open offensive coordinator job.
But that's no longer happening.
With former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan taking the head coaching job with the Tennessee Titans, Pitcher is not going anywhere and will instead take over as OC.
The Patriots are back to Zac Robinson and Nick Caley as the top candidates in their current search. Robinson is another popular possibility, so New England could be looking to make a move sooner rather than later at risk of losing out on another coach.
After the Patriots and Bill Belichick mutually parted ways following 24 seasons and six Super Bowl championships, Bill O'Brien's job status was called into question. Especially considering how poor the offense performed during the 2023 season.
But instead of the team having to make the ultimate choice, O'Brien had already made it. He took a job with Ohio State as their offensive coordinator, leaving the Patriots after just one season.
For Pitcher, you can't blame him for making the choice to stay with the Bengals. It's where he's comfortable, having already been in the system. And now he's getting Joe Burrow back.
Meanwhile, the Patriots don't have a quarterback at the moment, with a big question mark hovering over Mac Jones' future with the team.
So let's see who will come in to New England and take this challenging job.
