On Thursday, an arrest warrant was issued for former LSU receiver Kayshon Boutte, who is being charged with Computer Fraud, a felony, along with a misdemeanor count of Gaming Prohibited for Persons under 21.
Boutte reportedly turned himself in and was pictured by WAFB leaving jail after posting a 600,000 bond.
With that, WAFB broke the news first, and has since come out with more details regarding the situation.
Boutte is accused of creating an online betting account under a fake name and then proceeded to place illegal bets while he was under the age of 21. During that time, he reportedly earned more than $500,000 in winnings, having placed nearly 9,000 illegal wagers.
And what made things worse is that he bet on college football games, including at least one LSU game that he played in.
The Athletic further reported that on Sept. 4, Boutte bet that he would score at least one touchdown in the game between LSU and Florida State, while also saying he would have over 82.5 receiving yards. This was part of an eight-leg parlay, but Boutte only finished the game with 20 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
And The Athletic also provided some additional information based on the affidavit for Boutte’s arrest warrant, explaining how the police were notified after the online gambling company contacted them because sports wagers were being placed by a prohibited person.
Boutte opened a FanDuel account on June , 2023 and the bank card was under his mother's name. However, his username was “kayshonboutte7." They then found another account that was funded by his mother's bank card that had been opened in April 2022 under the name Kayla Fortenberry, but the username was “kayshonboutte01."
Per the Athletic, "Boutte bet $450,000 in 2022 and lost $65,000 that year. In 2023, he bet $186,000 and lost $16,000.
All information above is from WAFB and The Athletic.
Since the news was made public, the Patriots released a statement regarding the incident.
"The New England Patriots are aware that Kayshon Boutte is cooperating with Louisiana police regarding their investigation into an underage gambling charge while he was a student at Louisiana State University. I don’t anticipate that we will be providing any additional comments at this time.”
LSU also acknowledged the reports.
"In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete's improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University. Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have to evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are grateful for the measures that detect and discourage sports gambling related misconduct."
