Robert Kraft is having some fun this offseason. And that includes taking a lighthearted dig at Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
The New England Patriots owner spoke about his memories with Taylor Swift at World Champion Sports Cards in West Palm Beach, Florida on behalf of Fanatics Collectibles to celebrate National Trading Card Day with the brand’s Topps Hobby Rip Night event. And he gave his take on who she should be dating.
"Maybe she should have been dating Gronk," Kraft said with a smile. "He's better looking."
Of course he didn't actually mean it, with Rob Gronkowski being in a committed relationship with Camille Kostek. But Kraft had to show loyalty to the Patriots legend.
Kraft and Swift go way back, with Gillette Stadium being the first NFL stadium she played in. And it was a day the owner will never forget.
"Her first stadium concert was on my birthday in 2010, June 5th. We convinced her and her family that she could sell out the stadium," Kraft said, also talking about when she returned during the NFL season. "She came to view the Chiefs play the Patriots this year at Gillette, I gave her a framed ticket from that concert."
"And she's done pretty well since then," Kraft added with a laugh.
Swift and Kelce have become the biggest storyline in the NFL this season since the two went public with their relationship. And with that, she had also drawn in a completely new group of fans who watched every single game, hoping to catch a glimpse of the singer.
Along the way, these new fans have also learned the rules.
Throughout the season, numerous members within the Patriots organization commented on the relationship, including former head coach Bill Belichick.
"Travis Kelce has had a lot of big catches in his career," Belichick said on WEEI in September after Swift went to her first Chiefs game that month. "This would be the biggest.”
However, Kraft had kept fairly quiet on the matter… until now.
