Devin McCourty spent 13 years with the New England Patriots, so it's no secret that he got to know head coach Bill Belichick very well.

This season, there have been rumors that Belichick is on the hot seat as the Patriots have gotten off to a 1-5 start for the first time since 1995 and the first time under the direction of Belichick. Because of that, many have began to speculate about whether Belichick will be around next season.

However, Devin McCourty went against all these claims, showing complete faith in his former coach.

"Yeah, there's no doubt about it," McCourty said when asked if he thinks Belichick can still coach in the NFL during his weekly appearance on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI. "I think if he was a bad coach, this team would have not won two games, three games as soon as we lost Brady a couple years ago."

The transition after losing Tom Brady was a tough one, but McCourty showed how Belichick was able to help the team despite such a drastic change.

In their first season without Brady in 2020 and with Cam Newton as the starting quarterback, Belichick led the team to a 7-9 record. In the past two seasons with Jones, his coaching helped the team earn a 10-7 record in 2021 and an 8-9 record in 2022.

"How many other franchises would love to have seven wins, eight wins, 10 wins (after losing their franchise quarterback)," McCourty added. "That's just not normal for a lot of other franchises, but I think because of what Bill is able to do, people they put him, and likely so, they put him at a higher standard because he has won so many Super Bowls and he's done a lot of great things in his career."

And what he said next will make all Patriots fans happy.

McCourty claims that he doesn't see Belichick ever jumping to another staff.

As for what's going to happen next season, McCourty can't perfectly predict that. But he has seen first hand what Belichick is able to do, and has faith that this struggling season doesn't represent Belichick's coaching ability.
