The main question everyone had after the New England Patriots loss to the Washington Commanders was why two top cornerbacks were sidelined.
And on Wednesday, information about the benching was finally released.
Albert Breer initially reported that J.C. Jackson was late to the team hotel on Sunday, which led to him getting benched. And ESPN's Mike Reiss has now provided an update on Jack Jones, saying the he also missed curfew on Saturday prior to the game.
This directly goes against what Bill Belichick said after Sunday's game when asked about the situation.
"No," Belichick said when if this was disciplinary in nature . "Everybody played. They all played."
Jackson will reportedly not be traveling with the team to Germany, while Jones' status is still unknown.
Jackson was acquired by the Patriots from the Los Angeles Chargers in October in return for a late round pick. This is his second stint with the Patriots, having began his career as an undrafted free agent with New England in 2018.
Following the 2021 season, Jackson went to Chargers, signing a massive $82.5 million contract for five years.
So with that, it's clear that the Patriots got the better end of the deal after they worked with the Chargers to rework Jackson's remaining $9.33 million for the 2023 season. New England will only cover $1.5 million of it, while Los Angeles is responsible for the rest.
However, it appears that Belichick's idea to bring the cornerback back to New England is not working out how he expected.
As for Jones, he dealt with a lot of legal issues during the preseason, but those charges were officially dropped ahead of the New England Patriots' season opener in September.
Yet, just a few days later, Jones was placed on injured reserve to start the season with a hamstring injury, meaning he was out for at least four games.
Drama seems to follow the two cornerbacks, so we will have to see what happens going forward.
