A to Z Sports is reviewing the New England Patriots’ 2022 NFL Draft class ahead of the team’s upcoming organized team activities next week.

First up in our Patriots 2022 NFL Draft review is one of the biggest unknown commodities on the roster.

Round 7, Pick 245: Michigan OT Andrew Stueber

2022 Summary:
Stueber missed the entire 2022 season on the non-football injury list with a hamstring ailment. He missed all of OTAs, minicamp and training camp last year, as well.

What lies ahead:
Stueber’s role in 2023 will be what he makes of it in OTAs, minicamp, training camp and the preseason.

Stueber currently looks like a longshot to make the roster behind fellow tackles Trent Brown, Riley Reiff, Calvin Anderson, Conor McDermott and Sidy Sow after missing every single practice last season on the NFI list. But nothing is really guaranteed in the positional group, and it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that Stueber — or another young player — could earn a starting role this season if he’s fantastic this spring and summer. Just making the roster would be a major win for Stueber, however.

The Patriots cut 2019 third-round pick Yodny Cajsute from the tackle room Thursday, which at least increases the chances of Stueber making the team. New England drafted Sow in the fourth round this year, but he hasn’t played tackle since he was a freshman at Eastern Michigan in 2018.

Brown and Reiff are the favorites to start, but there’s some wiggle room for another Patriots tackle to find first-team reps on the left or right side. Brown struggled last season at left tackle, and Reiff is 34 years old. Stueber would need to incrementally make his way up the depth chart since he’ll likely start the spring at or near the bottom.

He was Michigan’s starting right tackle in 2021. He has ideal size and length for a tackle at 6-foot-7, 323 pounds with 34 1/8-inch arms. He let up just two sacks in 1,580 total college snaps and one sack in 927 snaps as a senior.
