A to Z Sports is reviewing the New England Patriots’ 2022 NFL Draft class ahead of the team’s upcoming organized team activities next week.

Next up in our Patriots 2022 NFL Draft review is a player who suffered from New England’s draft haul this spring.

Round 6, Pick 210: LSU G Chasen Hines

2022 Summary: Hines dressed for five games last season but did not play before being placed on injured reserve Oct. 29. He missed OTAs and minicamp and the beginning of training camp on the non-football injury list.

What lies ahead: Hines’ chances of making the 2023 Patriots roster looked much stronger before New England selected three interior offensive linemen early on Day 3 of the NFL Draft in Troy center Jake Andrews, Eastern Michigan guard/tackle Sidy Sow and UCLA guard Atonio Mafi.

Hines also will be competing for a roster spot with James Ferentz, Bill Murray and Kody Russey behind prospective starting left guard Cole Strange, center David Andrews and right guard Michael Onwenu.

Hines did enough last summer to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster. He didn’t allow any sacks in 48 preseason snaps and let up three pressures. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound lineman saw 44 snaps at right guard and just four at left guard.

Hines would need to beat out Jake Andrews, Sow or Mafi this spring and summer or require an injury to make the 2023 roster. It’s not a great sign that Hines didn’t see the field last season despite being in a struggling offensive line room. He could be one player to benefit from new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm, however. Hines was coached by Matt Patricia in 2022.

Hines started 17 games at LSU with 16 of those coming at right guard. He allowed three sacks as a senior in 2021.
