It doesn’t appear that DeAndre Hopkins will be signing a deal with the New England Patriots anytime soon.
The star receiver reportedly had a very successful visit with the Patriots and although New England will be “making a push” for Hopkins, this won’t be happening instantly.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports that "both sides are now expected to take some time to assess their next steps." It was also made apparent that Hopkins will most likely wait until until closer to training camp in late July to see if there is a larger need with any other teams, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Hopkins visit with the Patriots came after he spent time with the Tennessee Titans, but left there without signing a contract. Yet, since he has left, the Titans have offered Hopkins a deal.
Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien spent time with Hopkins while serving as the head coach of the Houston Texans, and although he was responsible for trading the receiver to the Arizona Cardinals, there doesn’t appear to be any bad blood.
Instead, O’Brien is one of many who is in favor of Hopkins joining the team.
This latest report comes after The Athletic's Jeff Howe reported that the Patriots are interested in adding the receiver and while he has left Gillette Stadium, he will remain local.
Yet, while Hopkins will hold out on signing a deal, there remains the same optimism that they can find common ground.
