It was a good day for Matthew Judon.
The linebacker agreed on a contract adjustment with the Patriots on Friday, getting $14 million fully guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. He was initially set to make $2 million guaranteed this season, and will now have the ability to earn up to $18 million.
However, Schefter added, "no new years were added to the contract."
Judon joined the Patriots in 2021 after five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Across his seven years in the league, Judon has recorded 355 total tackles, 62.5 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 14 passes defended.
He has been limited during training camp, but denied that any of that was due to contract disputes.
"Right now we are just working, me and the training staff and the coaches, working to where when I do practice, I am at a good pace. I can move fast the whole practice," Judon said on July 28. "So it’s nothing like that, but it’s much more working on my condition, working on running, and making sure I am where I need to be.”
Judon is entering the third year of his four year deal and is going into the upcoming season being ranked 33rd for the NFL Top 100.
He is a key part of the defense, so New England was able to keep him happy and provide him with an early birthday gift (his birthday is Aug. 15).
