FOXBOROUGH, Mass – For the third time this season, the New England Patriots elevated Jalen Reagor from the New England Patriots practice squad for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. And it worked in their favor, with Reagor having an increased role in the offense during New England's 29-25 win.
However, this was the last time Reagor could be elevated from the practice squad according to the rules. If they wanted to have him play in another game, the Patriots would have to sign him to the 53-man roster or release him and re-sign him to the practice squad after he clears waivers.
But his strong performance on Sunday combined with an open spot on the 53-man roster after the Patriots opted to release Malik Cunningham, has made Reagor a top candidate to fill that spot.
And on Wednesday, Reagor was asked if he is aware of any plan following the final elevation.
"Not that I know of," he told A to Z Sports. "I just sit around and wait for them to tell me. Even with the elevations, I don't find out until the end of the week. So I just prepare the same way."
His time in the NFL has not been easy, but on the practice squad, Reagor has been able to focus on just football, with the goal to prove himself.
And these three elevations have proven something to the young receiver.
"I feel like it's just been a testament to hard work and consistency because that's what it's about. And being available. Just being available for the coaches," Reagor said. "Showing them I can learn fast, learning smart, and just displaying my abilities."
Reagor was released by the Minnesota Vikings on cutdown day, and the Patriots signed him to the practice squad the very next day.
Coming in so late, he was forced to learn the playbook quickly, but it wasn't a problem for Reagor.
"To be honest, I'm very smart," Reagor said. "And I've been in three different offenses. So everything's pretty much the same. It's just different terminology and stuff like that."
But this is also the first time he isn't playing each week.
"This is the first time I haven't played in a season," Reagor explained. "When I was in Minnesota, I played consistently. When I was in Philly, I played. This is the first time I've been on practice squad."
Reagor began his career in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, being selected in the first round of the 2020 draft. However, after two seasons, he was traded to the Vikings where he remained for the entire 2022 season.
So his time in the league has not been easy, and while there is no certainty of what's next for Reagor, he is focused on the present and doing what he can.
"Yeah, I like it here," Reagor said. "Whatever they need. Whatever they need for the business, what's best for the team, I'm for it."
