While the New England Patriots got a bit of good news to start out the day on Wednesday, it was spoiled by another report that came out shortly after.

After bringing back a familiar face in J.C. Jackson, Ian Rapoport reports that Christian Gonzalez is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season due to a torn labrum from a dislocated shoulder. He is expected to have surgery soon.

Gonzalez dislocated his right shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys after executing a hit on Tony Pollard.

While he appeared to get up, he was taken out of the game and assisted into the blue medical tent by trainers. He emerged soon after and headed straight into the locker room, being marked as questionable to return.

Gonzalez was downgraded to out shortly after.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe further reported that the Patriots learned on Sunday night that Gonzalez's injury was worst than they had hoped with worried about "significant damage around the shoulder after it dislocated during the game."

The rookie was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft and has not disappointed. For his contributions in his debut season, the cornerback was named Defensive Rookie of the Month for September.

And he has not disappointed, sacking Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in his NFL debut and following it up with an interception on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in Week 2.

The Patriots are now without Gonzalez and Marcus Jones who are out due to injury, with Myles Bryant as the only one who is still healthy. However, they brought in Jackson and also have the ability to potentially take Jack Jones off IR this week.

Gonzalez has already made a strong impression, but he will be forced to wait until next season to get back on the field.
