The New England Patriots appear to be looking to add depth to their offense, inviting two Super Bowl champions to workout on Wednesday.

One of which was Leonard Fournette, who worked out with the Patriots last year before re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"My understanding is, despite the fact that (the Patriots) did not immediately sign him, certainly this is something that at least they will keep tabs on in the future," NFL Insider Ian Rapoport said on NFL Total Access. "Maybe it's the case of either they sign someone before camp or get into camp, see the running backs that they have on their roster, and then maybe decide to add later."

Fournette began his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being drafted in the first round, fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent three seasons with the Jaguars before signing with the Buccaneers in 2020. Across his six years in the league, Fournette has 1,132 carries for 4,478 yards and 34 touchdowns. He has had two 1,000+ yard seasons, including during his rookie season.

Fournette was one of two players the Patriots worked out, also bringing in former Rams running back Darrell Henderson. New England has also been tied to Dalvin Cook in recent days, becoming the betting favorites to land the star running back.

They are looking to bring in another player to help Rhamondre Stevenson.

"Rhamondre Stevenson has established himself as the clear lead back," Rapoport said. "Seems like a veteran would make some sense."

Let's see what happens in the coming days.
