The New England Patriots won’t be re-signing one of their most popular free agents among the team’s fanbase.

The Buffalo Bills are instead signing away running back Damien Harris. Harris announced the news himself on Twitter, tweeting out “LETS GO BUFFALO ❤️💙 #BillsMafia.”

The Patriots had already signed his replacement, free-agent running back James Robinson. The writing was on the wall that Harris wouldn’t be back when he retweeted Philadelphia Eagles’ anti-Patriot Way message last week.

Harris, a 2019 third-round pick, was one of quarterback Mac Jones’ best friends dating back to their time at Alabama. Harris carried the ball 449 times for 2,094 yards with 20 touchdowns in four seasons with New England and added 40 catches for 281 yards through the air. His best year came in 2021 when he carried the ball 202 times for 929 yards with 15 touchdowns. Harris took a backseat to Rhamondre Stevenson during an injury-plagued 2022 season.

Harris joins James Cook and Nyheim Hines in Buffalo’s backfield. The Bills lost running back Devin Singletary to the Houston Texans on Monday.
