New England Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki has one of the most incentive-laden deals signed in free agency this offseason.
Gesicki signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with another $4.5 million in incentives.
Here’s how they break down:
- Gesicki will earn:
- $300k for 40 catches, 50 catches, 60 catches, 70 catches, 450 yards, 550 yards, 650 yards and 750 yards.
-
$350k if he plays 46% of offensive snaps.
-
$400k if he plays 53% of offensive snaps and 60% of offensive snaps.
-
$450k if he plays 70% of offensive snaps.
-
$500k if he plays 80% of offensive snaps.
In all, to hit the full $4.5 million, Gesicki will need to catch 70 passes for 750 yards and play 80 percent of offensive snaps.
All of Gesicki’s incentives are considered not likely to be earned since he didn’t hit them last season. That means they don’t hit the salary cap in 2023. Gesicki caught 32 passes for 362 yards with five touchdowns in 2022. His career highs in catches and yards came in 2021, when he caught 73 passes for 780 yards with two touchdowns with the Miami Dolphins.
Gesicki’s one-year deal includes a $2.4 million signing bonus, a fully guaranteed $1.15 million salary, $850k in per-game roster bonuses, $100k in a workout bonus and $3.55 million in total guarantees.
