The New England Patriots hosted their first open OTAs practice on Wednesday, with a few notable names missing in action. 

Gearing up for his third year with the Patriots, Mac Jones was in attendance but was unable to practice with New England's top receiver addition during the offseason. 

Juju Smith-Schuster was not on the field for the voluntary practice, but there might be a reason why. Smith-Schuster is set to take part in the Logan Bowl, a live, bracket-style Madden tournament hosted by the Christian McCaffrey Foundation on Saturday. 

Smith-Schuster signed a three-year, $25.5 million contract with the Patriots in March, adding the top receiver as a weapon for Jones. And it's clear that the 6-foot-1, 215 pound receiver knows what success feels like, coming off a Super Bowl championship with the Kansas City Chiefs.  

Also missing was the Patriots first-round draft pick Christian Gonzalez, which raised a few eyebrows. While Gonzalez has yet to sign a contract with the Patriots, there were other draft picks without contracts who were in attendance on Wednesday.

Another 2023 draft pick, Marte Mapu was in a red non-contact jersey. The LB out of  Sacramento State was drafted by the Patriots in the third round with the 76th overall pick.
