By Tuesday at 4 p.m., the New England Patriots must get the roster down to 53 players.
That means with the preseason finally over, it's time to move on to roster cuts. I recommend bookmarking this tracker for you to stay updated with all of the latest moves.
Bill Belichick and his coaching staff wasted no time getting started with the tough job. Here are the latest roster moves:

Monday, August 28
- QB Trace McSorley – Tom Pelissero
This move isn't much of a surprise, as McSorely didn't see much play time during the preseason games. Following Malik Cunningham's exciting debut in the first preseason game, McSorely's saw a serious decrease in his reps in practice. There is the possibility for him to be added to the practice squad once he clears waivers.
- P Corliss Waitman – Tom Pelissero
It appears Bryce Baringer has won the battle in New England, with Waitman being waived. It's possible that the former Steelers punter could earn a spot on the practice squad, but Baringer has impressed with his strong leg during the preseason.
Sunday, August 27

- LB Diego Fagot – Boston Herald's Doug Kyed
- TE Johnny Lumpkin – Boston Herald's Doug Kyed
- S Brad Hawkins – Boston Herald's Doug Kyed

Saturday, August 26
- DT Carl Davis Jr. (via MassLive’s Mark Daniels)
Davis had played in 36 games throughout his three seasons with the Patriots, joining the team in 2020. The defensive tackle appeared during the fourth quarter of Friday night's preseason game against the Tennessee Texans, despite most of the defensive starters receiving the night off. While they have a solid core group of Davon Godchaux, Christian Barmore, Lawrence Guy, and Daniel Ekuale, Davis’ exit might make room for Sam Roberts who had an impressive game on Friday. He finished with seven tackles, a sack, three quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss during the game.
- CB Quandre Mosely (via Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed)
Mosely joined the Patriots practice squad last season, as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. He appeared in one game during the 2022 season. Still, he was met with tough competition in the cornerback room this preseason with Myles Bryant, Christian Gonzalez, Jack Jones, Jonathan Jones, and Marcus Jones being the best candidates to make the roster.
