The New England Patriots have brought in another quarterback.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots have signed former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Will Grier to the roster.

Grier served as the third-string quarterback in Dallas before they brought in Trey Lance. And quarterback Dak Prescott was publicly upset over having to let Grier go.

The Patriots were in need of a quarterback after releasing Ian Book from the practice squad, along with the strange saga that occurred with Matt Corral.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots placed Marcus Jones on injured reserve in a corresponding move to make room for Grier.

Grier was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft he joined the Cowboys off waivers right before the start of the season in 2021.

Just before cutdown day, the Cowboys acquired Trey Lance, who was set to serve as the third-string quarterback. That left Grier on the outs, but the team allowed him to play the complete preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he had a standout performance.

The quarterback recorded 305 passing yards and two passing touchdowns along with two rushing touchdowns.

Just a day after being released from the Cowboys, he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Because the Patriots signed him off a practice squad, Grier is required to remain on the active roster for at least three weeks.

Grier will have a chance to matchup against his former team next week when the Patriots travel to Dallas.
