The New England Patriots will honor retired quarterback Tom Brady at their 2023 home opener, team owner Robert Kraft first announced Thursday morning on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.”

“The greatest player in the history of the game played right here in Foxboro, and I’m happy to tell you…I invited him back to come here and be with us at the opening game," Kraft said. ""It will be the beginning of many celebrations to honor Tom Brady and say 'thank you' for what he did for us those 20 years playing for the New England Patriots."

The Patriots will play the Philadelphia Eagles at 4:25 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Week 1.

The Patriots also tweeted out the news Thursday morning with the message, “12 is coming home.”

Brady retired early in the 2022 offseason but wound up returning for a third season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He retired again Feb. 1 this offseason.

Brady won six Super Bowls with the Patriots and another one with the Buccaneers. The five-time Super Bowl MVP appeared in nine total Super Bowls with New England and 10 in his career.

Brady was selected in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Michigan. He played for the Patriots from 2000 to 2019 before spending the final three years of his career with Tampa Bay. The three-time NFL MVP holds the league record for most wins, passing attempts, passing completions, passing touchdowns and passing yards. He made 15 Pro Bowls and was a six-time All-Pro.
