New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is in the news once again.
Unfortunately, it involves injury once again. Head coach Dennis Allen just announced that Thomas will undergo surgery on his foot and be placed on injured reserve.
Allen does not believe that Thomas will play again this season.
It is yet another slap to the face for Thomas and the Saints.
Once arguably the best wideout in the NFL, injuries have decimated his career over the last few seasons.
Thomas dislocated the second toe in his foot.
The team's treatment plan did not go as planned, so they were all forced into this situation.
Allen said that the toe did not respond how the Saints were hoping. "It hadn’t healed the way everybody was kind of hoping that it would", according to Allen.
Initially, the Saints thought that Thomas would miss three to four weeks. That's why he was not originally placed on injured reserve.
That wasn't the case, and the injury has turned into a season-ending one.
The news is even more crushing considering how Thomas played to begin the year.
Thomas looked healthy. He sounded like he felt like himself. Now, he is back on the shelf for another handful of months.
His future with the Saints only gets cloudier as time passes.
