The New Orleans Saints are trying to finish this season strong. At the same time, they are making important decisions regarding former head coach Sean Payton.
The Denver Broncos are actively trying to find a new head coach as a disappointing season unwinds.
It has been no secret that they may make an aggressive hire. Their front office is poised to spend major money on a new head coach, and they won’t be afraid to go after big names.
The Broncos just requested and received permission from the New Orleans Saints to interview Sean Payton.

The NFL ruled that any in-person interview with Payton cannot be conducted until at least January 17, per sources.
Payton, the former Super Bowl champion as a HC for the Saints, took this season off from the sidelines.
Now, he is looking to make his return to the NFL. Apparently, the Broncos are interested in the former Saints play-caller.
Payton is still under contract with New Orleans, so the Broncos will need to figure out a deal with whichever team makes them move for Payton. That trade will probably be configured with a first-round pick going to the Saints.
For Denver, they own one of those that will probably be in the latter part of the first round. It was the 49ers’ picks, but the Broncos own it after their trade with the Miami Dolphins.
Payton is the biggest splash in the coaching pool during this off-season.
The Saints need to make the best move for their future regarding Payton. That means they could force an auction-type of contest between multiple teams for the best draft compensation.
Only time will tell.
Regardless, Payton has proven himself as an elite offensive mind in the NFL, and the Broncos are set to interview him soon.
