The New Orleans Saints do one thing well, draft Ohio State wide receivers.

It's been tough the last three years for him with injuries, but Michael Thomas has been extremely productive when healthy. In 2022, the Saints selected Chris Olave in the first round, and he took full advantage of his opportunity.

Olave was so good as a rookie that has was one of the better receivers in the NFL in a specific area. When it came to the most productive receivers who lined up on the outside 65% and had more than 2.00 yards per route run, Olave was among guys like Justin Jefferson and Davante Adams per PFF premium stats.

Olave entered the league with a great feel for route running. As a rookie, he drew over 100 targets, finishing the year as the sixth-most-productive receiver in the league on a per-route basis.

The Ohio State product caught 48 of his 76 targets for 666 yards, two scores and 28 first downs from an outside alignment last year.

Olave picked up for the absence of Thomas quite nicely. He amassed 72 receptions for 1,042 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to his prowess as an outside threat, Olave had 152 snaps in the slot as well.

Olave is already impressing his new quarterback Derek Carr during OTAs.

In practice on Tuesday, Carr told Olave that he need him to get open during a certain play. With safety Marcus Maye in coverage, Olave made a contested catch on a deep pass.

“He loves to work, he keeps his head down, doesn’t say much until it’s time,” Carr said. "He went up there, got the ball, and we’re just building on that. Watching him run, it’s been a treat, him and Rashid (Shaheed) can fly, and not only can they fly, they can run routes and play football, so it’s fun for me to watch.”

2023 is shaping up to be another big year for Olave.
