The New Orleans Saints had one of the most first quarters in NFL history in Week 13. They were down 21-0 within the first eight minutes against the Detroit Lions. The defense couldn't stop a nose bleed, and the offense was slow to start the NFC matchup.

Plain and simple – the Saints got punched in the face, and their fans let them hear it.

Boos rained down for the defense after the Lions' third touchdown. Additionally, during the first half, the Saints crowd booed when quarterback Derek Carr took the field. On snaps where Taysom Hill replaced him, the crowd rejoiced. It was clear on the TV broadcast, too.

Of course, players hear their crowd reactions. After the game, veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu discussed the boos during the team's struggles.

It was clear that Mathieu was shaken up by the crowd's emotions. He grew up locally and attended LSU. He has a close bond with New Orleans in every way imaginable.

You can tell that it breaks his heart for fans to be disappointed in how the Saints are playing right now. At the same time, he took plenty of blame and responsibility. He knows that the team is not playing up to their capabilities, and the effort is not good enough at times.

The Saints are 5-7 and sit in third place in the weak NFC South.
