The New York Jets quarterback situation has been all the talk this past week.

And now they have made a major roster move amidst all the controversy.

CBS Sports' Josina Anderson reports that the Jets are releasing quarterback Tim Boyle and are signing Brett Rypien off the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.

Boyle started in two games for the Jets this season after head coach Robert Saleh decided to bench Zach Wilson prior to their Week 12 matchup against the Miami Dolphins

In his first game, Boyle finished the game 27 for 38 for 179 yards, including one passing touchdown and two interceptions. Saleh decided to stick with him the following week as the starter, but after he went 14-for-25 passing for 148 yards with one interception, he was taken out at the end of the third quarter. Trevor Siemian replaced him, but didn't do much better.

Because of that, there have been reports this week that the Jets could go back to Wilson, but no official decision has been made.

And now, Saleh and the Jets have decided to let go of Boyle altogether.

Rypien was brought in to replace Boyle, having played for the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, and the Seahawks. Across his four years, he has 98 completions for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions across 10 games played.

The Jets also have opened Aaron Rodgers practice window, but because of their unlikelihood to make the playoffs, it doesn't seem he will return. New York could opt to make him the emergency third quarterback if needed though.
