Let it be known, Aaron Rodgers is having fun playing football and it has him in a really good mood at training camp.

So much fun that he is ready to stay with the Jets for a few years and not just one. At least that’s what he said after Wednesday’s practice.

On his intention to play more than one season: “Some of it is how much fun I’m having. The team gave up significant pieces for it to just be a one-year deal.”

You know what is even more fun than training camp? Winning.

Let’s be honest, it is nice to hear he is enjoying being around a team that has been playoff absent for over a decade. It’s nice to hear that there is good team chemistry being built amongst a lot of big personalities. It’s nice to hear that despite having a “losing culture” right now, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ultimately, Rodgers can say whatever he wants to in training camp. It will feel good and make Jets fans feel a small sense of pride. But in the end, whatever he says now, will mean absolutely nothing.

I fully believe that Rodgers intends to stay with the New York Jets for at least two seasons and perhaps even more. But intentions don’t mean results.

The hard truth is this, if the season goes down the tubes, he will not put his body and mind through another exhausting season in the hardest place in the world to play just because he “intends to” in July of 2023.

Rodgers has a built-in excuse to walk away from the game whenever he wants. He’s old. He can simply say at the end of a long and difficult season that his body can’t take it anymore and we would have no choice but to believe him. How could you not?

I believe that Aaron Rodgers will be closer to the player he was in 2021 when he won his second MVP award in a row, than the player he was last season. I believe that this defense is relentless and can shut any team down when they are at their best. I believe in Coach Saleh as a true leader of men.

But I also believe that the AFC is as stacked as any conference has been from top to bottom. I believe that the Dolphins are really good, and the Bills and Chiefs are juggernauts. I believe that almost every game will be a battle and there is very little room for error.

Having fun matters in the NFL within organizations. But fun can become toxic without the wins to go along with it. Rodgers and the Jets have the ability to get those wins, but it is not certain.

Anything can happen on any given Sunday in the NFL. And if that is true, then certainly anything can happen year-to-year with a 39-year-old quarterback.

ESPN has Jets’ Rodgers top 5 QB in the league

It’s been a long time since the Jets cracked any type of list involving quarterbacks other than “rookie potential” or “most likely to get cut”. But Aaron Rodgers finding his way to New York from the Green Bay Packers certainly has changed things throughout the organization. The team has a different aura about them. They […]
