East Rutherford, NJ August 26, 2023 -- New Giants linebacker Isaiah Simmons during warm ups. The NY Jets against the NY Giants on August 26, 2023 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, as the rivals play their final preseason game before the start of the NFL season.

The New York Giants made a big splash earlier in the week. That was when the team traded for former first-round selection Isaiah Simmons, who was in a bit of a tricky situation with the Arizona Cardinals prior to being moved.

Now, Simmons gets a fresh start with the Giants, and it hasn't taken very long for him to make an impression with his new squad. In fact, the former Clemson star looks to be a perfect fit in New York.

Simmons is an intriguing athlete that can fill multiple roles on an defense. Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has already revealed some ways in how he will utilize the versatile defender.

Simmons flashed the ability that turned him into becoming a first-round draft selection during his first preseason action with the Giants. He was rushing off the edge and even putting pressure on New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

He even beat running back Michael Carter on a play, forcing Rodgers out of the pocket, leading to an errant throw. That kind of playmaking is exactly what New York has needed on the second level of the defense.

The Giants have needed that kind of ability at the linebacker position. By trading a seventh-rounder for Simmons, New York has a low-risk opportunity to fill a big need on the defensive side of the ball

And with the preseason concluded, it looks as if Simmons is ready for whatever role that defensive coordinator Martindale has planned for him. Which has to be exciting in the lead up to week one of the 2023 NFL season.
