The New York Giants and star running back Saquon Barkley continue to try to strike a long-term deal. It doesn't seem to be going swimmingly right now. The two sides are running out of time.
According to Ryan Dunleavy, the Giants' latest offer had just $19.5 million in guarantees for Barkley.
The deal is a bit surprising from the side of New York. That offer seems mighty low for a top five running back in the NFL and one of the lone bright spots for your offense in recent years. For comparison, that guaranteed number would be lower than every deal given out to top RBs in recent offseasons.
Christian McCaffrey got $36 million guaranteed, and Alvin Kamara got $34 million guaranteed. Derrick Henry got $25 million guaranteed. The closest guaranteed number for a Barkley-type player is Nick Chubb's contract. he received $20 million in guarantees. You'd have to think that Saquon is shooting for at least $23+ million guaranteed on his long-term deal to put him among the top-paid running backs in football.
