The NFL Draft cycle is full of rumors and differences of opinion between teams and draft analysts throughout the media.
One of the opinions on this class that just about everyone agrees on is that the running back class is tremendously impressive.
The NFL is very high on the RB class in the 2025 NFL Draft
"It's a good year to need a running back," said one AFC scout, "And the class has just about any flavor of back you could want." While this statement came from one scout, the sentiment is shared throughout the league. Another scout in the AFC went even had the following to say about how strong he believes this class is: "I think there could end up being 10 guys in this class that go on to become starting RBs in our league."
Ashton Jeanty is the name talked about the most, of course, following one of the best seasons by an RB in college football history. This landed him as a Heisman finalist, and he finished second only behind Travis Hunter for the prestigious award. Even with RB not typically being viewed as worthy of a first-round pick, Jeanty is a shoo-in for being one of the first 32 players drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. And according to multiple scouts around the league, he won't be the only one.
RBs receiving first-round buzz with the 2025 NFL Draft around the corner
Jeanty is a lock to hear his name called in the first round, and last week, a popular question being raised was whether or not there would be over or under 2.5 RBs drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. So I decided to ask a few scouts that question, and nearly all of them said that they believed more than two will end up being selected in the first round. The most interesting part is how many different names I heard that have legitimate first-round buzz right now.
After Jeanty, North Carolina's Omarion Hampton seems to be the consensus second RB in the class, with multiple counts believing he could end up hearing his name called in the top half of round one. RB 3 is a much more complex conversation. Just from talking to a group of nine scouts, I heard four different RBs as their third highest-ranked in the class. Depending on the teams willing to use a premium pick in this class on an RB, the results for how they come off the board could go a lot of different ways. Right now, I expect a third RB to come off the board in the first round. After my discussions, here are the RBs I believe have enough fans around the league and buzz right now to at least have a shot to be one of the first 32 players drafted.
- Ashton Jeanty, Boise State (Lock)
- Omarion Hampton, North Carolina (Near lock)
- Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State
- TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
- Kaleb Johnson, Iowa
- Dylan Sampson, Tennessee
2025 2 round NFL mock draft: Ashton Jeanty joins the top 5, Shedeur Sanders falls out of the top 10 but lands in a perfect spot
We are less than three weeks away from the 2025 NFL Draft, and things are starting to look clearer at the top of the order. Now seems like as good a time as any to release a new two-round mock draft of how I think the 2025 NFL Draft could go, including Shedeur Sanders falling […]
Meet Day 3 2025 NFL Draft prospects from the Big Ten, ACC, and G5 who are pro day winners
The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine served as a major showcase for the top athletes in this draft class to impress evaluators and coaches. While the performances from the fall season paved the way for these athletes to participate in the Combine's athletic testing, it's important to note that the game tape doesn't overshadow everything that […]
