Clemson tight end Jake Briningstool has quickly become one of the most underrated players in the 2025 NFL Draft class. He quietly put together a very productive career for the Tigers, hauling in 127 receptions for 1,380 yards and 17 touchdowns. At 6-5 and 234 pounds, Briningstool is very flexible, good straight line speed, and natural ball skills.
At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Briningstool spoke to the media on Thursday. Briningstool answered questions pertaining to his college career, draft process, and some other miscellaneous random topics. One interesting question centered around Briningstool's comparison to an NFL player on the next level.
Briningstool brought up an interesting player that he has modeled his game after. Apparently, he has gotten that comparison from several NFL teams so far.
"I have been compared to Mike Gesicki a lot throughout the process," Briningstool said. "He has had a really successful career in the league, so just being able see what has worked for him is something I can put into my game. We have some similar strengths so just trying to put it into my game."
If Briningstool ends up with a Mike Gesicki type career, that is nothing to shake your head at. Known as an athletic career, Gesicki has been very productive for the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He has hauled in 325 receptions for 3,526 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Funny enough, Briningstool’s biggest flaws are very similar to Gesicki’s. Blocking is not the name of his game. Briningstool is also a long limbed and very thin. The parallels are very interesting.
