JC Latham, OT, Alabama

Height/Weight: 6-6, 342

Age: 21.2

Strengths

  • Forceful Hands: Shocks the defender with initial punch to force knock back
  • Grip Strength: Once locked in, the engagement is over thanks to hooks for hands
  • Drive-Steer: Can completely wall off runs and form gaping holes both on the play and backside

Areas of Improvement-Concerns

  • Punch location: Can miss his timing and go low on defenders, causing him to lose balance
  • Plotter in Pass Pro: Heavy frame can cause some laboring around the pocket
  • Awareness: Late to see blitzes, loopers and penetrators

Evaluation:

JC Latham is a first round tackle due to his guard like run blocking skills, yet agile pass setting repertoire. He isn’t the most graceful of players in pass protection, but to be that big yet fluid enough to mirror edge rushers is almost as an impressive as his run blocking ability. An absolute bulldozer, once engaged, the rep is already won for Latham, making run centric teams more than happy with his services as a potential top 15 pick.
