It takes a certain kind of person to play defense in the NFL.

But when that defender is also noted for being one of the hardest-hitting players in his draft class, there is a special set of confidence that comes from within.

Miami safety Kamren Kinchens has that confidence and for good reason.

The Next Great DB?

"It's great you can't ask for anything better," Kinchens told me when asked about what it means to come from Miami and be next up in the league. "To have Ed Reed (Miami legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame safety) in the background to always mentor you and make sure I'm on point on and off the field is great because I want a gold jacket like he has."

Kinchens has a ways to go before he puts on any jackets with gold coloring, but the potential is undeniable, as he has old-school hit power, new-age ball skills, and the tenacity and intensity to play at a high level on every snap.

But it's never to early to aim high, especially when you possess a skillset and confidence like Kinchens.
