There is such a thing as buttering up your opponents, but Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman is known as straightforward. Preparing for a huge Big 12 matchup between his Wildcats and Colorado this Saturday night, Klieman shared some pointed feedback on Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders, the senior quarterback who has helped make the Colorado Buffaloes a must-see program over the last two seasons, has the chance to be a high first-round pick next April. Read below for Kliemen's evaluation of Sanders.

Both the Wildcats and Buffaloes are 4-1 entering this matchup, and Klieman feels overcoming a quarterback who he'd take No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft is a tough task.

"I think Sanders will be the first quarterback picked off the board. He should be. In the film that I’ve seen of a lot of the top guys, I think he’s an excellent thrower. You can’t really confuse him. I’ve seen a lot of different teams try to manipulate coverage in disguise, and he does a really good job pre-snap to post-snap, and he can make all the throws and has a lot of guys to throw the football to.”

Sanders has accumulated 1,630 yards, scored 14 touchdowns, and thrown three interceptions with a completion rate of 70.1% across five games this season. He is on track to surpass his performance from the previous year, during which he participated in 11 games.

Sanders is my QB1 and ranks as a top-15 player on our collective 2025 NFL Big Board

While Carson Beck, Cam Ward, and Jaxson Dart each struggled to break tendencies that have created red flags about their respective NFL futures, Sanders remains the best quarterback in the country every week.

While he's still prone to unnecessarily extending plays and putting himself at risk of sacks, Sanders delivers masterful performances without creating turnovers.

His performance against UCF was his best mix of creating big plays, taking care of the ball, and moving the ball efficiently. Sanders had only one turnover-worthy throw, an interception, and took two sacks despite being pressured 14 times. He's operationally as advanced as Caleb Williams.

There will be justified questions about Sanders' attitude that decision-makers must flesh out, but on the field, he's the best quarterback in the 2025 class. He's reached the level of mastery on Saturdays that only high-end prospects reach.
