Pros of Keionte Scott
- Highly instinctive. Identifies his keys in run fits and easily diagnoses passing windows. Makes big plays by being proactive.
- Speed. Explodes into the backfield and throttles down on pass catchers in a blink. Can hit his head on the goalpost once he has the rock.
- Competitive toughness. Seeks contact against offensive linemen, backs, and tight ends. Will go shoulder first and toss his weight around, no questions asked.
Cons of Keionte Scott
- Coverage limitations. Does his best work going forward. Will struggle to man the slot against shifty and speedy wideouts.
- 6-year collegiate athlete. Took a while for the light to turn on. Some teams may worry about age and his ceiling.
- All gas. Love his playstyle, but it can cause some missed tackles and openings for a scrambling QB when deployed as a blitzer.
Background
A San Diego, California native, Scott was a two-way starter at Helix High School while also lettering in track and field. He began his collegiate career at Snow College before transferring to the University of Auburn where he played for three years before joining the Hurricanes in 2025. Scott would go on to earn second-team All-ACC honors, and he was named a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, while helping Miami’s defense secure a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Player Evaluation
I love Keionte Scott for what he brings to a football team. He’s an exceptionally instinctive defensive back that plays one speed: wide-open throttle. He will thump ball carriers in the run game, take on blocks at the point of attack, then go and crib call an interception thanks to his play speed and instincts. There will be some concerns about his age and overall ceiling, as well as true coverage ability, but smart, fast, and tough always play in the NFL, and certainly on defense.
