Deone Walker career statistics

Pros:

  • Imposing size
From a pure size perspective, you won't find many as imposing as Walker. In a lot of ways, his frame is very reminiscent of former Georgia standout Jordan Davis.
  • Explosiveness
For a defensive lineman this large, Walker is an impressive athlete. It takes a step to get his momentum going, but when he does, Walker is really difficult to stop. Foot speed at that size should be illegal.
  • Pass rush upside
When you look at Walker, you wouldn't expect him to be able to give you much against the pass. Then you see his impact on passing downs, and the ability to push the pocket. That is what makes Walker such a unique player.

Cons:

  • Pad level
At 6-6 and 345 pounds, Walker is naturally going to play a bit high. It appears that Walker doesn't even try to play low. He pops up consistently high out of his stance and allows opposing offensive linemen to get underneath his pads.
  • Conditioning
On some snaps, Walker is utterly dominant. Then there are long stretches where he simply disappears. A big reason is his conditioning, seemingly running out of gas down the stretch of football games.
  • Consistency
This is interrelated to the conditioning topic. For a player who has this amount of rare upside, you want to see him dominate the game more consistently. He has to be bring more consistent substance to the table.

Player Evaluation:

When you talk about the defensive line class in the 2025 NFL Draft, most conversations have Walker a part of the initial conversation. He has some rare athleticism for his size, but doesn't always play like it. The flashes are certainly there, and teams will value their abilities to tap into it in the future.

Walker's biggest issues are bad weight on his frame and poor pad level. Someone will more than likely talk them into Walker being a first round selection, but there is some big bust potential here. You will need to continue developing the finer points of playing the position, or he may never hit his ceiling.

Player Comparison:

Jordan Davis (Philadelphia Eagles)
Mammoth interior defensive lineman who can be extremely disruptive in the run and pass game. Will need to get himself into better condition, and play with more consistent pad level.
