Zy Alexander career statistics

Pros:

Length/frame
Length is one of the first things that pops off the film when you watch Alexander. At 6-1 with long arms, he is very comfortable playing outside of his frame. Being able to disrupt the catch point is an area of strength.

Game experience
Alexander has played a lot of college football, and experience matters when trying to impact a team early on. He’s played on multiple levels during his five years, while playing a variety of coverages, systems, and against good competition.
Ball skills
During his college career, Alexander intercepted 13 passes, and it wasn’t by mistake. Alexander is very comfortable in contested catch situations, and has made a few highlight reel interceptions during his career. He’s very comfortable taking the football away.

LSU CB Zy Alexander (#14) was very, very improved in 2024. Long frame (6010v, 188v) and possesses good long speed. Profiles best to a heavy C3 system which allows him to play more on a vertical plane.

Cons:

Limited hip mobility
There is extreme tightness in Alexander’s hips when working out of his pedal. His overall change of direction skills are below average for NFL standards. That limits him mostly to zone schemes on the next level.
Play strength
A thinner cornerback with limited muscle mass, Alexander needs to add strength to his frame to match physicality. That includes in coverage against bigger wide receivers, and in the run game. Alexander really struggles to get off of blocks on the perimeter.
Consistent effort
There are too many times when Alexander looks like he’s playing at half speed. That includes when working pursuit angles in the run game. The motor doesn’t always appear to be running hot.

Player Evaluation:

While Alexander isn’t one of the top tier cornerbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft class, he is even more evidence for the quality of depth. In terms of the better zone centric cover men in the class, Alexander brings one of the highest floors. He possesses a good feel for spacing, great length, good long speed, and ball skills to the table.

For teams that do want to run a lot of man coverage, there will be a lot of limitations with Alexander. His lack of hip fluidity makes it difficult for him working out of his pedal. He is going to allow a lot of easy separation, especially when working in off man.

Player Comparison:

Eli Ricks (Philadelphia Eagles)

A heavy Cover 3 cornerback, Alexander possesses the length and long speed to translate well sticking on a vertical plane. That skill set should make him rosterable in 2025 while his play strength continues to improve.
