Pros of Michael Trigg
- He possesses elite athleticism, including a rare blend of explosiveness, leaping ability, and catch radius
- Trigg has put together some of the best highlight reel catches you will ever see; his combination of body control and ball skills makes him very unique
- There is some very unique alignment versatility for Trigg, having the ability to line up as an H-back, a wing, in the slot, or into the boundary
- There aren’t many linebackers or defensive backs who can survive in man coverage against Trigg’s mismatch skill set
- Trigg has an intriguing developmental track; he just had his best two seasons after sporadic production early in his college career, which should give some hope that there is still a lot more upside to develop
Cons of Michael Trigg
- Trigg has limited reps as a true inline blocker; next to no impact in the running game
- While he has upside as a route runner, Trigg’s usage has been very linear without much nuance
- He has had some off-field concerns during his previous stops at USC and Ole Miss; interviews during the pre-draft process will be critical
- For as athletic as he is, there is limited impact for Trigg after the catch due to inconsistent field vision and linear style
Background
Trigg was considered to be a consensus four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms when coming out of Tampa Bay (Fla.) Carrollwood Day in the 2021 class. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Trigg finished rated as the No. 130 overall player, the No. 4 tight end, and the No. 21 player from the state of Florida for the 2021 recruiting class. As impressive as his rankings were, the offer list for Trigg was even better.
USC won out at the time over an elite offer list that included Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, Auburn, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky, Louisville, Iowa, South Carolina, Pitt, NC State, Arizona State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Illinois, UNC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Syracuse, UCF, Duke
It has been an interesting journey for Trigg so far, who spent his freshman season with the Trojans. After that 2021 season, Trigg opted to transfer to Ole Miss, where he spent the next two seasons. Those first three years were not productive ones for Trigg, eventually ending up with the Baylor Bears for his final two seasons. During that final stretch, Trigg became one of the more productive tight ends in college football. He ended his five seasons with 108 receptions for 1,419 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He just had his best two seasons after sporadic production early in his college career, which should give some hope that there is still a lot more upside to develop.
