With the NFL Scouting Combine officially here, fans of QB-needy teams who are hoping to watch the future of their franchise sling the ball around are likely to be disappointed.
Thats because Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and now Drake Maye all have opted out of the drills at this year's combine.
Here's why that bodes well for J.J. McCarthy:
J.J. McCarthy Will Throw at NFL Combine
McCarthy has been picking up steam among members of the media lately, but from sources I've talked to as well as credible reporting from Destin Adams of A to Z Sports, the NFL has always been fond of McCarthy.
Teams appreciate his youth, traits, and championship pedigree after playing under HC Jim Harbaugh.
I've heard that McCarthy is expected to dominate in the interview portion of the Combine, as teams will love his energy, leadership and passion.
Now, the aforementioned players like Williams, Maye and Daniels could also do very well in the interviews.
But if McCarthy goes onto the field and runs anywhere near his rumored 40 time, spins the ball well, and weighs in above his listed weight of 203 pounds, suddenly the hype train reaches a new level of speed.
And look, I wrote earlier on Tuesday that Drake Maye's late announcement of sitting out the drills was a smart decision. That's because he's a lock top 5 pick, even if McCarthy catapults himself into that conversation.
But as Adams reported earlier this month, at least one team already has McCarthy as their QB#2 in the class and others could soon follow if he walks away from Indy as the most impressive prospect in every area of the Combine.
