Strengths

Athleticism: Willie Lampkin is a tremendous mover and one of the best athletes in the offensive line class. When he climbs to the second level, he closes on defenders with ease. He has the tools to recover when beat. Lampkin is capable of executing a variety of assignments because of his physical gifts.

Play Strength: Despite his size, I was stunned at just how strong Lampkin was on film. While he isn't the strongest player in this class, he's capable of digging out defenders and driving them out of lanes. His punches jar defenders and disrupt their timing. When he can establish contact on defenders, he wins the rep far more often than not.

Technique: It's tough to find a technical flaw in Lampkin's game. His 60+ starts show up on film. His punches are accurate and well-timed, his footwork is clean and crisp, and he handles stunts and other line games with ease. Lampkin is as refined a prospect as you'll find in this class.

Versatility: It's rare to find a prospect with double-digit starts at two positions, but Lampkin has that at three, with 26 at left guard, 21 at right guard, and 14 at center. He has the ability and experience to handle all three spots.

Weaknesses

Frame: All of Lampkin's weaknesses stem from his lack of size, so it's easier to sum them all up in one category here. There are a few instances on film where I wonder if some of the quicker defensive tackles in the league can shoot through him because of his lack of size. I also question how he battles some of the lengthier defenders in the league if he can't establish first contact on them. He is also just a complete and utter outlier. He is one of the lightest offensive linemen to enter the NFL and he would be the shortest by far.

Player Evaluation

Willie Lampkin is the most fascinating prospect I have evaluated in my decade-plus of scouting. His frame is a major concern and makes his projection difficult, but the film is high-quality. He's a top-notch athlete, his play strength despite his size is good, he's capable of executing a wide variety of blocking assignments, he's scheme-versatile, he's fundamentally sound, and he has double-digit starts at multiple positions. Lampkin had a tremendous week at the Senior Bowl as well, winning against multiple styles of opposing rushers.

I just don't know what in the world he projects best as at the next level. If he sticks at center, it mitigates him facing one-on-ones as often. However, with his need to establish first contact early on, sticking him at guard might be the best play for him, as he can fire off the ball quickly without having to worry about snapping and reacting.

Where this gets tricky is if teams evaluate him as a fullback. If a team thinks he can be similar to Baltimore Raven Pat Ricard and simply refuses to consider him on the offensive line, then his value drops even further. There have been just eight fullbacks drafted in the last ten years, and none have gone in the top 150 picks.

For all of these reasons, it's difficult to project his draft stock. Some teams will have him at guard, some at center, some might have him as a fullback, and some might not even have him on their board at all. I'm confident several offensive line coaches will fall in love with him, but I'd be willing to bet plenty of executives who would be willing to let someone else take a gamble on such an outlier.

However, I firmly believe in his ability to play on the offensive line. The film is just too good and his losses are few and far enough between that I'm willing to buy in on him. If any outlier can work out, it would be Lampkin.

Player Comparison

Slightly less athletic Jason Kelce (Philadelphia Eagles)

Now listen, before anyone freaks out that I'm comparing a prospect to a future Hall of Famer, this is off of size and athletic profile more than anything else. Keep in mind that Kelce was just 280 pounds coming out of Cincinnati as well with similar length (32-inch arms). While I don't quite think Lampkin will be a 4.89 40-yard dash runner or post a 4.14 short-shuttle, he is a very good athlete in his own right much like Kelce

Kelce defied his size routinely with superb technique and good play strength, and if Lampkin succeeds in the NFL, he will have to do much the same.
