Star QB CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans could be eyeing a Buckeye reunion in the 2025 NFL Draft
If you think back to the 2021 wide receiver room for the Ohio State Buckeyes, it was an embarrassment of riches. Between Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Emeka Egbuka, that is a whole lot of difference makers on the NFL level. That doesn't even count Jameson Williams, who transferred from the team prior to the season because of the depth of the group.
For Egbuka, he has somewhat gone underappreciated from the media perspective. He is very well-liked from the NFL side, but the fact that he has had to share targets with so many talented players, most haven't talked about him nearly enough. Egbuka ended his Buckeye career with 205 receptions for 2,868 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Egbuka is now busy navigating the 2025 NFL Draft process, and spoke to the media at the 2025 Scouting Combine on Friday. A part of the conversation centered around a formal visit he had with the Houston Texans, and his obvious connection to star quarterback CJ Stroud.
"I had a great meeting with the Texans," Egbuka told the media. "That was formally. CJ and I, obviously I have a lot of love for the guy. Just to see what he is doing with his faith too at the next level is something I am so proud to see as a friend of his. Our relationship definitely runs deep. You have a special connection when you are catching passes from him and going for 1,000 yards for a super memorable season. Playing with him was amazing times for me."
Stroud and Egbuka were together in Columbus his first two college seasons, and there appears to be some level of interest for a possible reunion. The Texans have a stellar pass catcher in Nico Collins, but more weapons are needed. With Stefon Diggs injured and gone this offseason, as well as the constant durability concerns for Tank Dell, that room could be reshaped this offseason.
While Egbuka may not be as dynamic as some, he is one of the more dependable targets in this class. You can pretty much pencil him into being an outstanding second receiver on the next level at the very least.
Ohio State star duo plant their flag on social media after dominant NFL Combine showing
Only two Ohio State Buckeyes took part in drills on Thursday's opening tests at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. Just a few weeks removed from the program completing the longest college football season in history, it's not a surprise stalwarts J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer opted against doing on-field activities. However, the Buckeyes' stellar tackle […]
