The second day of practices in Mobile saw multiple players take a step back from their performances on Tuesday, or a continued slump that has yet to be broken this week.
Here are the three underachievers that stood out most from the second day of Senior Bowl practices.
QB Bo Nix, Oregon
Nix didn't have a great day on Tuesday, but his Wednesday performance was worse. He had several underthrows in one-on-ones, and threw multiple bounce passes like he was doing his best Jason Kidd impression. Plus, he fumbled a snap in team drills that was recovered by the defense.
You can make the argument Nix has been the most disappointing player so far this week in Mobile. He'll need a strong final practice followed by a nice performance in the Senior Bowl on Saturday to rebound from a rough start.
WR Devontez Walker, North Carolina
I know I sound like a broken record putting Walker on the underachievers list again, but he has really struggled. He had multiple drops again today, and while he looked better than Tuesday, he still showed a lot of bad traits. Walker is one of the fastest guys in this class, but you need more than speed to be a good NFL receiver- ask Andy Isabella. He can't separate, and his hands aren't great. If he has a future as an NFL player, it will be in the Calvin Austin, Kalif Raymond role of being a gadget guy.
QB Michael Penix Jr, Washington
Penix had a fairly nice day on Tuesday, but he struggled immensely on Wednesday. He overthrew several receivers during one-on-ones, and never seemed to find any sort of rhythm throughout the day, both in one-on-ones and team drills.
An anonymous scout described Penix as "Tua [Tagovailoa] with a bigger arm." As long as he faces no pressure and has everything perfect around him, he can make things happen. As soon as there is any adversity, though, watch out. He'll need a nice bounce back day on Thursday.
