If you have frequented 2025 NFL mock drafts this time of the year, Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker is a player you see regularly in the first round. Walker has put together a tremendous season as a junior, collecting 57 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks for the Bulldogs. He has also recorded two fumble recoveries, and broken up a pass on the season.

As a player, there is a lot to like about Walker. At 6-2 and 245 pounds, he is a hyperactive defender who possesses tremendous play speed and range from the second level. Combine that with the effort he plays with, and Walker has a propensity to make plays all over the field. He has a tremendous knack for always being around the football.

Walker is also utilized as a pass rusher for the Bulldogs, both off of the edge and shooting interior gaps coming from depth. His impact as a pass rusher may actually be the biggest sell to Walker's game right now. From his first step, closing speed, and flexibility perspective, the defender brings a really intriguing baseline to the table. There surely is a nice projection as a sub package rusher on the next level.

The biggest issue is that Walker is far from a perfect EDGE prospect. He lacks the length and overall size to consistently play on running downs, and the former could prevent him from finishing a lot of plays at the quarterback. That role is only something they can utilize him in during certain situations. His body type just won't allow for it in a high volume.

At linebacker, Walker has a decent amount of upside but just how good he can be is still a major question mark. His eyes are solid, but his anticipation is a major work in progress. That is the spot that definitely lends to his highest upside, and potentially tapping into the versatility he brings to the table. In reality, Walker is probably best served as a SAM backer, but that position is becoming a bit obsolete.

While Walker is a good player, he is straddling that line between versatility and being a tweener. The latter is something that nobody ever wants to be, but unfortunately, Walker may fit that description. The first round right now is a bit rich. Walker is a bit more enigmatic than most want to admit.
