There's one quarterback prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft that is going to be a first round pick and nobody realizes it yet

With the 2025 NFL Draft coming later this week, we are beginning to get a more clear understanding of how the first round is going to play out.

But even now, nobody seems to be talking about one quarterback prospect who I predict to go in Round 1: Louisville QB Tyler Shough.

Shough is the QB5 and 67th overall ranked player on the consensus big board, mostly because of his age. Shough is 25-years-old. He'll turn 26 in September. But even though he played seven years of college football, he only started a full season one time (2024).

At Louisville this past season, Shough threw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns with only six interceptions. The Cardinals finished 9-4, won the Sun Bowl, and had a Top 10 offense in the country.

I don't expect any of this to sway you into believing Shough is going in the first round. But if you pay attention to what the teams are saying, you may see where I'm coming from.

Shough's draft stock

According to Adam Schefter's latest draft notes, "there are teams that actually have Shough rated as their top quarterback in this draft."

At 6-foot-5 and 219 pounds, Shough might have the best "NFL body" off this draft class. He also has athletic enough to really catch your attention. He ran a 4.63 at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Shough had experience in many different offenses during his three college stops, but at Louisville, he thrived in a pro-style offense. He had a lot of control at the line of scrimmage, which has translated into him crushing his pore-draft meetings with interested teams.

This is an intelligent, experienced quarterback with the capacity to spray the ball all over the field accurately. There's a lot there for a QB-needy team to sell themselves on. As Schefter went on to write, "[Shough] could figure into the back part of Round 1 or possibly into Round 2."

I am of the belief that Shedeur Sanders is going to land with the Giants at No. 3 overall. If that were to happen, it would move every other quarterback prospect up a rung of the ladder. Maybe the Saints or Steelers go for Jaxson Dart. Maybe one of them is interested in Shough. I could even see the Saints/Browns getting in the mix and trading back into the end of the the first round. That fifth-year option is valuable.

I am going to call my shot and say that even in a "bad quarterback draft class," four quarterbacks will come off the board in Round 1 and Tyler Shough will be one of them. Fans need to know this name before draft night gets here.
