Anticipated Titans Cuts Perfect For Practice Squad: Who Brian Callahan’s staff shouldn’t give up on and keep around in 2025

Trying to predict a 53-man roster is practically impossible to do with 100% accuracy, even with really strong insider access. These decisions are complicated, each impacts the others, and the decision makers keep their cards close to the vest a lot of the time. I still did it though (ok probably not perfectly), and you can read all the insider nuggets I shared in the article linked right here.

You know what’s even harder than a roster prediction? A practice squad prediction. Especially for a team like the Tennessee Titans, whose utter lack of depth makes it highly likely that their practice squad will eventually consist of a number of players from other teams. That being said, there are some intriguing players on this roster worth keeping around for various reasons. And while I won’t pretend to know exactly what’s going to happen once the 53 man roster is ironed out, I do have enough insight from the past month of training camp to build a 16-man practice squad. Here it is:

Running Back: Jordan Mims

Mims recorded 98 yards on the ground for the Titans in the preseason, and has done some nice things in practice at times. He stands no chance to make the active roster unless both Spears and Mullings are in worse shape with their ankle injuries than expected, but he could land on the PS.

Wide Receivers: Xavier Restrepo, Mason Kinsey

Hoards of Titans faithful will panic and riot over the cutting of Miami legend (and great friend to Cam Ward) Xavier Restrepo is cut this week. That tumult will likely last a matter of hours before we learn he landed safely on the practice squad. I think the team wants to keep him around, and he’s not getting claimed on waivers. Neither is Mason Kinsey (I think… looking at you, New England) and I think he lands on the PS per the usual arrangement. Let it never be said Mason Kinsey is not a useful player. Between January and August, he is unironically as useful as they come. The guy is an offseason machine, a real leader, and a serious practice asset. He hasn’t stuck around this long out of sheer luck.

Tight Ends: Thomas Odukoya, Josh Whyle

There was a time that the Titans coaching staff would have liked to get Thomas Odukoya on the active roster as TE4 to serve as the team’s traditional inline-blocking tight end. He’s better in that role than anybody else on the 90-man roster, and that’s why they’ll probably try to keep him around in the practice squad. Josh Whyle flamed out this summer and fell from his perch as TE2, but he’s not some lost cause just yet. He knows how to handle himself and would be nice to have around in a pinch. I think they’ll entertain keeping him too.

Offensive Linemen: John Ojukwu, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, Jaelyn Duncan, Andrew Rupcich

Four lineman: three tackles and a guard. Andrew Rupcich is the sole interior player in this group, and you just can’t count the stalwart veteran out. The team trusts him in a pinch, and would love to keep him around. Crenshaw-Dickson is a rookie UDFA project tackle out of Florida who the coaching staff seriously liked this summer, and want to keep him cooking on the PS for the year. They see potential in him. Jaelyn Duncan could, I’ve been told, be a trade target? I know, hard to believe. But tackle builds are so hard to come by, and his pedigree fits the bill. Ojukwu is just about the only player in this article with a very decent shot to make the active roster, making me look foolish, but if he gets cut I expect him to land here without a doubt (unless he gets poached).

Defensive Tackles: Cam Horsley, Isaiah Raikes

I think the Titans will look to keep both of these UDFA defensive tackle projects.

They both looked good in the preseason, and I think this staff sees future roles for them if they keep developing.

Linebacker: Brian Asamoah

The Titans brough Asamoah in on August 13th after being cast-off by the Vikings, who made him the 66th overall pick in the 2022 draft. he’s not been here long, but I see some potential. I think the staff could look to keep him around on the heels of a 4 tackle performance in the final preseason game; a Vikings revenge game, by the way!

Cornerbacks: Clarence Lewis, Jermari Harris, Davion Ross

All three of these corners are UDFA rookies, and all flashed in moments this preseason. Their overall camps were disappointing, but under the lights, you could see some nice things on the tape. All of them absolutely need more development if they’re going to turn into a useful player, though, so I could see all three landing on the PS.

Safeties: Julius Woods, Kendall Brooks

Woods is somebody I’ve heard this coaching staff likes a good bit, and Kendall Brooks had some memorable moments in the preseason. I think both could stick around in Tennessee.
