The Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers are both in dire need of wide receivers. The Chargers released Mike Williams and traded Keenan Allen leaving them with a first round bust and a slew of backups. The Arizona Cardinals let Marquise "Hollywood" Brown walk via free agency and traded Rondale Moore away, leaving them nearly nothing at the position. It's no surprise they're both hosting Malik Nabers, WR LSU this week for an official Top-30 visit.
According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, Malik Nabers is visiting with the Cardinals on Tuesday, then seeing the Chargers on Wednesday.
Malik Nabers posted one of the most impressive seasons in recent memory in 2023, forcing his way into the WR1 overall discussions with Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State. Nabers averaged four yards per team pass attempt (100th percentile) and led all receivers in yards per game last season, dominating the SEC. If the Cardinals don't take him at four ahead of Marvin Harrison Jr., then the Chargers should be the team to snag him right afterwards.
Given that neither team returns any wide receivers with even 600 receiving yards last season, Nabers would obviously slide into the immediate WR1 role for either the Cardinals or Chargers. But given one particular staffer on-hand with the Cardinals, they may actually make the most sense.
Drew Terrell, the wide receivers coach has specialized working with speedy slender wide receivers who can win vertically from the slot or outside exactly like Malik Nabers. He helped develop both Terry McClaurin and Jahan Dotson at Washington, coaching them throughout their best seasons. He also worked with DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel in Carolina, and Isaiah Ford at Virginia Tech before that.
The Charger, on the other hand, are a tough read with all new staff in place. Their receivers coach Sanjay Lal helped develop DK Metcalf into more than just a slant and go route player. He also worked closely with Amari Cooper and a handful of other stereotypical X receivers that profile similarly to Marvin Harrison Jr. However, it's hard to tell what kind of wide receiver new head coach Jim Harbaugh will want, if he wants them at all.
In short, passing up on Marvin Harrison Jr. may prove difficult, but it seems both the Cardinals and Chargers are at least considering it.
