The Arizona Cardinals are giving tight end Trey McBride a four-year, $76 million contract extension, per his agents of Wasserman.

That makes McBride the highest-paid tight end in NFL history, putting him above current great TEs such as Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Mark Andrews. McBride ranked second at the position in receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,146) in 2024.

The Cardinals drafted McBride in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He won the John Mackey Award (college football's top TE) during his senior year at Colorado State. During the NFL Scouting Combine, McBride recorded the highest total among all TEs between the production and athleticism scores.

McBride took a backseat to Zach Ertz as a rookie, but came on strong at the end of the year with 20 receptions in his final four games. He took over as the primary starter in 2023, posting 81 catches on 106 targets for 825 yards. That season he became the first Cardinals TE to ever record 100 receiving yards in a single game.

McBride is now firmly entrenched as one of the league's best TEs. The only thing he's had a bit of a struggle with is finding the endzone, recording just six touchdowns during his three-year NFL career, and just two last season. However, McBride is a smooth route runner with great hands and is a safety blanket for quarterback Kyler Murray across the middle of the field.

With McBride and Murray both locked up for the foreseeable future, they can further their connection as one of the best in the league. McBride is not only a weapon as a receiver, but is a good blocker both in the running and passing attack. Arizona's offense was solid in 2024, but has the potential to be one of the better units in the NFL in 2025.
